Mark Crimmins Obituary

Mark Crimmins, of Stillwater, formerly of Lake Elmo, age 86, passed away on August 8, 2015 of cancer at his residence. He was born to Jerome and Maude (nee Enos) Crimmins on January 3, 1929 in Stillwater. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Olive Crimmins; brothers Joseph, Charles, Robert, Lee, George, John and James. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carol (Olstad) Crimmins; nephews Mark T. (Cindy) Crimmins of Hudson, John (Laura) Crimmins of Stillwater, Danny (Kathryn) Crimmins of Wyoming; nieces Jane (Tim) Flynn of St. Paul, Teresa (Dan) Rogers of Grant, Mary Palmer of Stillwater, Sue (Steve) Miller of Arlington, VA; grand nieces and nephews and many other family and friends. Mark graduated from Stillwater High School in 1947 where he lettered four years in baseball. He also played on the American Legion team that were state runners-up in 1947. He was also a two year letter winner in basketball where he played on the 1946 state tournament team. Mark signed with the New York Yankees farm team as a catcher and played in Fond du Lac, WI and Joplin, MO for two years. He played for the New Richmond Millers for two years, where the team was Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Association champions in 1949. Mark proudly served in Headquarters CO, 135th Infantry Division of the Army National Guard, Camp Rucker, AL, during the Korean War. Mark was a sixty two year member of U.C.T. He was a longtime, avid golfer and was a 53 year member of Stillwater Country Club where he won 8 club championships along with many other amateur golf tournaments, and 3 club championships in New Richmond. In 1964 and again in 1972 Mark won the Twin City Amateur tournament. He qualified and played in the 1983 Senior Open at Hazeltine. He was still shooting his age or better when in 2014 he shot a 71 at the age of 72. Fishing was very important in his early years. Mark and Carol spent many, many summer vacations in Montana and Yellowstone National Park trout fishing. Winter vacations were spent in Texas with Minnesota friends. Many thanks to Dr. Jahagirdar and the nurses and employees of the Oncology Infusion Center at Lakeview Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Church of St. Michael, 611 S 3rd Street, Stillwater, MN 55082. Visitation will be two hours prior to the Mass at the church. Burial at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Church of St. Michael or donor’s choice.
