Quentin Heimerman Obituary

Quentin O. Heimerman, age 89 of Stillwater, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 (All Souls Day). Born September 3, 1924 in Stacyville, Iowa, the fifth of seven children of Anton and Magdalen (Ginsterblum) Heimerman. Survived by beloved wife of 61 years Sally Ann (Krause) Heimerman; seven children, Thomas (Judith), Ann Anderson (Leonard “Doc”), Elaine Hathaway (Stephen), Mary Lynn Anderson-Winn (Jeff), Robert (Kris), Joan Kilibarda (Addison), and Steven (Ann); twenty grandchildren (John, Joseph, Mary and Anthony Heimerman; Rachael, Thomas, Mark and Elizabeth Anderson; Nathaniel, Craig and Samuel Hathaway; Jacob Anderson and Alyssa and Lucas Winn; Erin and Megan Heimerman; Rebecca and Addison “A.J.” Kilibarda; and Emily and Matthew Heimerman); one great-grandchild (Bode Heimerman); and one sister, Ruth Spear (Byron). Preceded in death by parents, and by his siblings Wilbur (Marjorie), Matthias (Jean), Rev. Francis, Mary Laliberte (Leness), and Rita Alley (Walter). Quent grew up in Stacyville, Iowa, attended Loras College in Dubuque, and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1947. He then worked as a federal bank examiner in the upper Midwest for four years before taking over the Stacyville Savings Bank, the “family business,” upon the death of his father. He met his wife, Sally Ann Krause, through his younger twin sisters Ruth and Rita, and married her in 1952. In 1958, Quent moved his young family to Stillwater, Minnesota, accepting an Assistant VP position at the First National Bank. In the mid-70’s, Quent and some Stillwater business leaders formed a holding company to purchase the bank, and he became its President. They later sold the bank to Firstar Corp, which eventually merged with U.S. Bank, and Quent served on its board of directors for the Midwest. As a lifelong banker, Quent was known for his personal and friendly style, spending as much time in the bank lobby visiting with customers as he did at his desk, a management approach that served him, the bank and the community well over the years. His were the days of a loan-on-a-handshake, with honesty and character as collateral. He retired from banking in 1991. Quent was an enthusiastic member of his church and community, serving on a number of boards, including Lakeview Hospital, and FamilyMeans, and supporting a number of other charities and organizations. He was one of the original board members of the diocese's Catholic Community Foundation, was a parish trustee at St. Michael’s for many years, and he and Sally were members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He was a long-time member of the Stillwater Lions Club, the Jesuit Retreat League at Demontreville, and the Knights of Columbus. He sang bass in St. Michael’s Church choir for over fifty years, and enjoyed golf, tennis, travel with his wife, and the family’s annual reunions “up north at the lake.’ Quent had a deep love of music, something he and Sally passed along to their children. He loved Stillwater, he loved his church, and he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, an unpretentious and happy man with a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and a great circle of friends. He loved having a good time, and made sure others had one too. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Church of Saint Michael, 611 South Third St., Stillwater, MN 55082. Interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 409 North Third St., Bayport, MN 55003. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Avenue North, Stillwater, and also one hour prior to Mass at the church. The family thanks the dedicated and caring staff at Boutwells Landing and Health Partners Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Michael and/or the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org).
