Feeny (Mary Josephine) Peterson

Feeny (Mary Josephine) Peterson was born in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, the fifth of eight children to Harold and Mary Anne Lebens. Her joyful and spirited childhood shaped the loving, welcoming woman she became.

Feeny attended Duchesne College and later graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Education. She began her career as a home economics teacher in Sioux City, Iowa, where she met the love of her life, Sam. They married on July 8, 1972, and built a beautiful life together with their four children: Erik, Elyse, Rachel, and Nathan. Motherhood was Feeny’s greatest calling, and she devoted herself fully to her family.

Throughout many relocations Iowa, Arkansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and finally Wisconsin…Feeny made every place a home. She formed instant friendships, volunteered in her community, and left a lasting impact wherever she went.

Feeny cherished her lifelong sisterhood with “The Lassies,” a group of friends who became family over more than 40 years of bunco nights, girls’ trips, birthday lunches, and daily connection. She also found deep meaning in her weekly Lovelies Bible Study, a sacred time of prayer and fellowship.

When it came to her siblings, "family first" didn't even begin to cover it. Feeny had a special bond with each and every one of them. Together, they weathered life's biggest moments—from joyous celebrations and lifelong traditions to holding each other close when mourning the loss of their siblings. Feeny also absolutely loved being an aunt. She was incredibly proud of all her nieces and nephews and only ever wanted the best for them, supporting whatever made them truly happy.

One of the most treasured relationships in Feeny’s life was the bond she shared with her sister Mary Anne and brother‑in‑law Greg. Their connection was more than family, it was a lifelong friendship filled with laughter, traditions, celebrations, and unwavering support. Living close allowed them to share countless moments together, and their companionship brought Feeny immense joy throughout her life.

Feeny’s greatest joy came from being a grandmother. She adored her son‑in‑law Howard and grandchildren Scarlett, Vivian, and Winston, celebrating their talents, passions, and milestones with endless pride and love.

Feeny lived a life grounded in faith, kindness, and service. She gave without asking, loved without condition, and made everyone feel welcomed and cared for. She was the bright light in every room, and her legacy is one of joy, friendship, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. She made the world softer and brighter simply by being in it.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, visitation one hour prior to the Mass all at the Church of St. Michael, 611 S. Third St., Stillwater, MN 55082.  Burial will be at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Somerset, WI.
