Age 83 of Mahtomedi. Died peacefully at home. Survived by loving and caring wife Pat; son Jim (Tracy); daughter Dr. Sarah; grandchildren Olivia, Amelia, J. McQuaid and Isabel; brothers Ben (Mary) and Peter (Mimi). Preceded in death by parents Ben and Henrietta; sisters Mary, Barbara and Henrietta. Jim was a many faceted man. He was born and raised in Pine City where he was a good student and excellent athlete. He was elected to the schools inaugural athletic Hall of Fame. Jim went on to the U of MN where he was a 3 year starter on the Golden Gophers football teams in the early 1950's. After a tour of duty in the Army in Japan, Jim returned to the U of MN where he completed dental school. Jim practiced dentistry for over 50 years in Mahtomedi. He loved his work and his patients, and his patients loved him. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and spent many days and nights on the lakes and in the woods of Northern Minnesota. In later years he fished closer to home on the St. Croix. Jim and Pat vacationed in Costa Rica. They both took great pride in learning the language and culture of their adopted country. Jim had a great sense of humor and was a master of the one-liners, making him a favorite of his friends and teammates. Mass of Christian Burial 10AM on Monday, June 17, 2013 at ST JUDE OF THE LAKE, 700 Mahtomedi Ave., Mahtomedi, MN. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at church. A private interment is planned.
