David M Stone, lifelong resident of Stillwater, MN, passed away August 29, 2023 at the age of 84.
David graduated from Stillwater High School - good thing his basketball coach said 'Stone, I think you should stick with golf'. He went on to play golf for the University of Minnesota and lettered. He finished his undergraduate degree at UWRF and taught a couple years in Madison, WI. He continued his education to earn a master's degree in counseling at UWRF. David worked as a secondary school teacher in the St. Paul Public Schools and retired in 2000.
He enjoyed golf, and the community at Stillwater Country Club. He worked grounds crew and caddy at a young age, bartended and once retired worked several years grounds crew and cutting trees. He was an avid road-tripper, spending many winters In Florida escaping the Minnesota cold.
His greatest joy was being a father and grandfather! Grandpa Dave has been a super fan at so many sporting events and is known for his big smile.
David will remain in the hearts of his daughter, Shelley Potvin of Blaine and grandchildren Paige, Charlie and Gavin. Also survived by siblings Gary Stone (Janet), Nancy Stone, Mary Summers and Carol Schmidt (Kevin). He was preceded in death by his parents Maynard and Lois Stone.
David battled metastatic melanoma for six months. He was a hard worker all his life and was determined to fight in treatment and therapy. We are grateful for the caring staff at Regions Hospital and The Pillars Hospice Home in Oakdale.
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, don't cry for a soul set free. Miss me yes, I know, remember the nice things shared. This is the journey we all must take, and we all must go alone, it's part of the master plan, and a step on the road to home, the Lord said, "I will prepare a home."
- Christina Georgina Rossetti
