Ernest Ross Obituary

Ernest "Ernie" William Ross Jr, 90, passed away on April 27th, 2021. Ernie was born on August 30, 1930 to Ernie and Ellen Ross Sr in St. Paul MN. He had 5 sisters and 1 brother and they grew up around the Rice Street area. He entered the Marines around the age of 17, spent just under 2 years on an aircraft carrier. He started out as a mechanic, until they discovered he could cook, then to the kitchen he went. He was stationed in Okinawa where he came down with TB and had to have the bottom part of his lung removed. Ernie started his truck driving career in St. Paul, working for a few different companies. That's where he met Terry and they got married and had 4 children. He then became an over the road truck driver and was gone most of the time but always cherished the memories when he did get home. From there Ernie and the family moved around a lot, 2 countries and a few states. Never a dull moment. He had always collected coins, from the time he was in the service to just a few years ago. Always looking for the oldest ones he could find. Trips to the junk yard with the kids was always a good find. Ernie loved to call bingo at the VFW in Coon Rapids, MN. He played horseshoes with the members and loved being there. He was an excellent bowler, always on bowling leagues. Stories of how he used to throw the ball without putting any fingers in it, and it would speed down the lane and STRIKE!
He and his siblings would have card nights all the time. Endless hours spent with them playing cards all night long, drinking and making memories. He always had a sense of humor and did all he could to make everyone laugh. He always brought happiness with him where ever he went!
Ernie, Margie and Patsy would make trips to the casino, he loved the casino. Not just to play the penny machines, but he loved to people watch. His favorite story was, always go to the casino on Halloween, watch the costumes people would come up with, or the lack of.
In 2013 Ernie was diagnosed with Dementia, he was living in Hudson, WI and was moved into a memory care facility. He spent a few years in WI, then the family moved him to Fargo, ND. Ernie always loved reading Louie Lamour books and if you tried to give him the same book, twice, he would catch you on it. TV, only if it had a shoot-um-up-bang-bang on, (westerns of course).
Ernie, (Daddio) was surrounded by family and loved dearly! He always said he was going to go in his sleep, that it was the only way to go. And he did.
He will always be in our hearts forever and always.
